Project Recap: Modern Farmhouse

When searching for home design inspiration, everyone at some point has stumbled upon the “modern farmhouse” style. Going beyond rustic charm, the modern farmhouse is inviting, warm, and modest in it’s styling. There were a few key elements we wanted to incorporate into the design; wide plank flooring, exposed beams and a shiplap feature. Maintaining character while melding modern finesse was our ultimate goal, let us take you on a little behind the scenes on how we got there.

Creating a concept is a crucial first step to every project. A strong concept keeps every detail tied together, achieving a cohesive feeling. With almost every home we take on, there comes a feature that becomes the driving force for the design through out. For this home, it was our double height fireplace featuring a horizontal shiplap. The timeless feature that blends modern with traditional was the focal of our home. As one of the features that defines the “modern farmhouse” aesthetic our concept started to fall in to place.

Some design elements such as natural finishes and warm whites with touches of metal had to be included to make this home the space we imagined. Matte black fixtures and hardware were just the finishing touches to bring this contemporary farmhouse together. Soft greens and natural elements like wood, wicker and linen are what made this house feel cozy, warm and inviting.

While we wanted to stay soft and muted in most areas of the home we decided to go a little more “fun” for our kids bedrooms. Stumbling on a watercolour cactus wallpaper sparked our creativity in creating an Arizona themed bedroom for a 8 year old boy. We loved how the room turned out!

Blending modern with traditional made this home a welcoming space to all. We loved creating this airy home and love being able to finally share it with you all!

We hope you can incorporate some of these beautiful design elements in your own home to make it suite your style. If you need any help or advice we are always here to help you. Happy Thursday!
